The department endeavours to impart quality education to students in the areas of computer science and engineering and information technology with exposure to industrial problems and application development through specialization programmes, student workshops, industry internships, Value-added courses and Projects. The department has very competent faculty certified and trained to teach advanced areas in computer science like cloud computing, software quality, cyber security, artificial intelligence and machine learning, blockchain technology, Internet of Things and so on.

The faculty is actively engaged in research and publications and has recognised projects to their credit in collaborations with industry, international universities and research labs of high repute.

Department’s ongoing research and consultancy:
  • Dr. Ketan Kotecha received Two Research grants worth INR 1.66 crores under Promotion of Academic and Research Collaboration (SPARC) scheme by MHRD, Govt of India, in collaboration with Arizona State University USA and University of Queensland, Australia.
  • CS/IT department has collaboration with Blockchain R&D Lab, Curtin University.
  • Every year SIU grants funding of 10 Lakh amount for major research proposals. The department received the grant for two project from CS/IT department : "Building and Leveraging Indian Food image data set for Calorie Calibration of Indian dietary pattern: Annapurna". This project's PI is Dr. Shraddha Phasalkar and CO-PI is Prachi Kadam. “Machine Learning Based Vibration Response Analysis of different Plates using Cymatics” by PI- Vijayshri Khedkar.
  • Over 7 applications with international collaborators in Curtin University Australia, UK university, California Institute of Technology, University of Michigan, University at Buffalo, University of Leeds, IUPUI University USA are sent for SPARC funding from CS/IT department.

The department has state of art computing facility as

  • High performance computing lab with Nvidia GPU
  • Data Analytics lab
  • IOT research lab
  • Computer Centre with machines in high configuration and licensed software required for teaching and research.

Ms. Archana Atmaram Chaudhari (JRF) and Dr. Preeti Milind Mulay published patent on “A SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR ANALYSIS OF SMART METER DATA”

The students are actively engaged in application based projects as well as research projects with industry, R&D labs, research centres as well as international universities.

Ms. Grishma Jena an alumni of Computer Science Engineering batch gave a lecture on "Data Scientist as a career" on 6th of January, 2020. Ms Grishma is a Data Scientist at IBM, San Francisco . She discussed the technical details of the python projects .

Dr. Ashish Mahabal, Senior Research Scientist at the Astronomy Department of the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), in Pasadena, USA gave an engaging talk on "Applications of AI and Deep Learning"on 5th November 2019. Dr. Ashish is one of the initial members of the US National Virtual Observatory (NVO) and continues to be involved in the Technology Assessment and data-mining aspects of the Virtual Astronomy Observatory (VAO) into which NVO has evolved.


Engineering Graduates will be able to:

  1. Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineeringfundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
  2. Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complexengineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
  3. Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems anddesign system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
  4. Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and researchmethods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
  5. Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modernengineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.
  6. The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assesssocietal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.
  7. Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutionsin societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.
