ENGINEERING HEROES WHO MADE INDIA PROUD
The human race has seen unbelievable progress and development as we’ve moved from the era of cavemen to the current age of smartphones. It would only be fair to say that if any one community has played a significant part in making this happen, it is the engineering community. Had it not been for the toil and brains of all the successful engineers of the past as well as present, we couldn’t have developed and found ourselves in the advanced age we currently enjoy.
Listed below are some great Indian engineers and their notable contributions in shaping society as we know it today. Engineers apply theories of science to solve practical problems in the world around them.
India is known for producing notable engineers since the times of M. Visvesvaraya in the 1860s. He is considered as one of the greatest Indian Engineers and was bestowed with Bharat Ratna in 1955. His contribution was beyond the realms of engineering infrastructures as he was a significant influencer in setting up of several industries & sectors including iron & steel, soaps, silk, sugar, banking & aeronautics.

The current CEO of Technology Google, Sundar Pichai is a computer engineer. He was bright and creative from a young age and worked in engineering and product management at Applied Materials and in management consulting at McKinsey & Company before he joined Google. Pichai is known for being the mastermind behind the launch of the Chrome browser in 2008.
One of the brilliant minds behind the Indian multinational company Infosys Ltd, Narayan Murthy is counted amongst the greatest industrialists of contemporary times. Under his leadership, Infosys became the first Indian company to feature on Nasdaq.
Elattuvalapil Sreedharan, popularly known as the “Metro Man”, is an Indian engineer who played a key role in changing the face of the public transport in India, particularly his work behind building of the Konkan Railway and the Delhi Metro. For his path breaking work in the development of Delhi Metro he was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, the second highest civilian award in the Republic of India, in 2018.
