Good Governance Day

Governance is "the process of decision-making and the process by which decisions are implemented (or not implemented)". The concept of "Good Governance" often emerges as a model to compare ineffective economies or political bodies with those which are viable.
Symbiosis Institute of Technology observed Good Governance Day on 24th December 2014, to celebrate the birth anniversary of Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee. A programme was organized on this day where the students and the faculty members presented their views on Good Governance.
Various points put up by students included the qualities sought from Good Governance and application of the same through electronic media. Some characteristics of Good Governance brought to light by the students were accountability, transparency, abiding by the rules, responsiveness, efficiency and effectiveness.

Further, faculty members presented their views adding to the understanding of Good Governance. This session was particularly interesting to the audience as the faculty included a lot of real life examples from their lives to support their views. Various examples quoted were of the difference in functioning of governments offices since the inclusion of e-governance. Another example citied was from the life of a retired army officer who spoke about how his seniors had influenced him to practice Good Governance through participation.

The speeches by the faculty members were then followed by the addresses by the Deputy Director, Dr. Akshay Malhotra and the Director of the institute, Dr. T. P. Singh.
